Tallgeese is the twenty year old Leo prototype and the original mobile suit in the Gundam Wing universe. It was originally designed by the Gundam engineers and another man, Howard, who makes appearances in the series (but had nothing to do with building any Gundams). However, the Tallgeese was absolutely huge, and its power couldn't be generated in any size smaller than that, and so a power cut was made and the current mobile suit size was made standard. So what happened to Tallgeese? Well, the plans to build it fell through, but it wasn't completely scrapped... Instead, it sat for twenty years, only half finished in the Corsica base, before a man by the name of Zechs Merquise stumbled upon it.
Being that Tallgeese is the beginning of all mobile suits, all mobile suits are obviously based off the Tallgeese design - and the Gundams are no exception. Lacking a Gundam of his own, Zechs had to go for the next best thing, and that was definitely Tallgeese. Zechs' men rebuilt the Tallgeese and it "fought," if you could really call it a fight, in the liberation of the Sanc Kingdom from the United Earth Sphere Alliance.
Tallgeese's first real battle, however, was in Siberia, against the Gundam that OZ dubbed "Gundam 01," Wing Gundam. The battle was a victory for OZ, but the Tallgeese didn't actually win the battle. Rather, Lady Une's tricks left the Gundam pilot, Hiiro Yuy, with no choice but to self detonate.
Tallgeese didn't fight again until Lucrezia Noin located the Gundam pilots Hiiro Yuy and Trowa Barton and brought them to Antarctica. Zechs wished for a rematch, because he doesn't fight people who have a handicap. He rebuilt Hiiro Yuy's Wing Gundam for this rematch, but Hiiro refused to accept charity, and used the Gundam 03, Gundam Heavyarms, instead. Tallgeese and Heavyarms battled for about three hours before the battle was interrupted by Relena Peacecraft, princess of the Sanc Kingdom. She came bearing a letter for Hiiro, but was ignored. The slightly larger problem of thirty mobile suit carriers that showed up after her could not be ignored, though, and once again, Hiiro and Zechs were interrupted.
Treize Khushrenada, leader of OZ and good friend to Zechs Merquise, set up a battle in which Zechs would die for OZ, thereby raising morale within the Romefeller Foundation and making Zechs a hero of the Foundation. The battle didn't go as planned, however, and Tallgeese fought through the entire force sent to destroy it. Zechs Merquise and Tallgeese were found after the battle by Howard, one of the men who helped build Tallgeese. Zechs and Tallgeese were sent to outer space, where the Gundam pilots had recently returned.
Once in outer space, Zechs used Tallgeese to take him from colony to colony, where he introduced himself as Milliardo Peacecraft, a goodwill ambassador from the Sanc Kingdom. OZ did not take kindly to his coming to outer space (or his still being alive, for that matter) and sent the two new mobile suits built by the imprisoned Gundam engineers, Mercurius and Vayeate (piloted by Hiiro Yuy, who was captured, and Trowa Barton, who was hiding himself within OZ) to meet him. Along the way, Mercurius destroyed some of the escort mobile dolls, and in the battle, Vayate finished them off. Tallgeese surrendered, and Zechs was taken to OZ.
Milliardo Peacecraft met with Lady Une and discussed peace before being on his way. He next went to the Alliance space headquarters. While there, OZ attacked, and Milliardo became Zechs Merquise, pilot of the Tallgeese. Zechs fought in the battle, and as a request from his friend, Treize Khushrenada, Zechs saved Lady Une from certain death. He took her back to Space Fortress Barge at her request, then was on his way again.
Zechs begins attacking OZ with help from Howard and his spaceship, Peacemillion. Finally, though, Tallgeese can go no longer. Zechs Merquise activates the Tallgeese self detonation sequence and moves into Wing Gundam Zero. After a twenty year life span, the original mobile suit, Tallgeese, explodes.
