Shenlong, or Nataku to Wu Fei, shows up, of course, in the first episode, in an attack on a military base. We don't see a whole lot of the battle, just Wu Fei's quick introduction and a little of Shenlong kicking ass. Shenlong is silent for a while until a few episodes later, when it attacks the Indus River Supply Base. Wu Fei meets very little resistance and notes that they underestimated him as he obliterates the base.

In the next episode, Wu Fei attacks the Lake Victoria base, Gundam-less. He's pursued by Lucrezia Noin on his way out to his waiting Gundam. Wu Fei realizes she's a woman and doesn't kill her. Instead, he simply damages her Aries so she can't fight. Wu Fei and Shenlong complete their mission to destroy the Taurus space mobile suits, and he's gone again.

When OZ tricks the Gundam pilots into killing the Alliance's pacifists, Wu Fei is the only one who realizes what's going on. Unfortunately, he and Shenlong arrived late, only in time to explain to Hiiro what he'd just done. Wu Fei and Trowa leave in their Gundams to pursue Treize Khusrenada while Hiiro Yuy, Duo Maxwell, and Quatre Raberba Winner stay behind to stop the base from exploding.

Wu Fei locates Treize and Treize challenges him to a duel. Wu Fei, who apparently carries a sword around inside his Gundam, accepts. Wu Fei loses the duel and considers himself unfit to pilot Shenlong Nataku. And so it goes, for quite a while, he continues to insult the weak, but now puts himself among them. He pilots Nataku only as a last resort and always apologizes to it. It's not until he fights alongisde Major Sally Poe that he realizes he's not weak for losing. He can pilot Nataku again as much as he wants now. Whee!

When Duo and Quatre attack the spaceport, Wu Fei is the first of the other three Gundam pilots they find. He comes across them being beaten down. He says that if that's all they can do, it's okay. He and the other Gundam pilots will handle it from there. Quatre and Duo get back up and as we all know, they all get into space successfully.

Wu Fei takes Shenlong with him, attacking OZ every once in a while. He's got no means to support himself in space, so when Shenlong gets damaged, Shenlong stays damaged. Eventually, he attacks the Lunar Base and Nataku is finally finished. Wu Fei tells the Gundam that they have to get a lot stronger as OZ tows them into the base, and Shenlong doesn't emerge from the Lunar Base again until it's been upgraded and has become Altolong Nataku.

Wu Fei and Nataku have a very deep bond. Actually, it seems that Nataku is probably the closest family Wu Fei has, and he values it very much because of that. He obviously thinks that Shenlong is better than him, as he would not have felt unworthy to pilot it otherwise. To others, it's a machine. To OZ, the Alliance, and the White Fang (later on, anyway), it's an enemy. But to Wu Fei, it's his best friend and his only family. While other pilots may have a connection to their Gundams (Duo and Deathscythe definitely, Quatre and Sandrock, to an extent... Hiiro and Trowa aren't so attached to their Gundams), none runs so deeply as that of Wu Fei and Shenlong (and later Altolong) Nataku.
