New Mobile Report Gundam Wing DVD: Operation 7
Operation 7
This disc features the first major change since Operation 1. It starts out normally enough, except that unlike recent discs, there's actually no model commercial, which is a nice plus, even though you could always skip it anyway.

Next, we got new menus. Featuring a short clip of "Operation Meteor," then the Gundam Wing logo, the new menu is from inside the cockpit of Wing Gundam Zero and features Rhythm Emotion playing in the background, with footage from the Rhythm Emotion intro playing in the big, single gridded viewscreen. In my opinion, the new menus are MUCH better than the old ones, and I really like them.

Operation 7 has no character bios, but there is a "Gundam Epyon Gallery." The name is somewhat misleading, though. It's not a simple gallery, but a complete bio of the Gundam. Overall, it's a pretty good bio. In my original reading of it, I thought I recalled it saying Epyon is more powerful than Wing Zero. I just skimmed through it again to make sure and I couldn't find that, but if it is indeed there, then it's an inaccuracy. I don't have ability levels memorized or anything, so I can't say for sure how they stack up numerically, but because the Epyon can only fight close range and the Wing Zero can fight at long or close range, and because their strength is comparable even if one edges out the other, it'd probably be most accurate to say they're about equal, but more accurate to say that Wing Zero is most powerful. But that little tangent may not have even been necessary... Anyway, following the bio is a small image gallery with some cool screen caps of the Epyon. As usual, there were also trailers on this disc. A list of those is at the bottom of the page.

The insert is nothing different. Five short summaries for each of the five episodes with a corresponding image from each episode and a wire frame model of the featured mobile suit, Gundam Epyon, with its specs surrounding it. The ads on the back are for Crest of the Stars 1: To the Stars, Outlaw Star Collection 3, Dark Soldier D, Escaflowne 6: Fate and Fortune, and Angel Links Collection 2.

The disc also features an action figure insert identical to the one in Operation 5. It basically just advertises for action figures from Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th MS Team, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Gundam Wing, and Endless Waltz. There's also a small ad for playing cards and for home video releases.

The Sanc Kingdom has recently been revived by its Princess, Relena Peacecraft. As a thorn in Romefeller's side, Duke Dermail decides it needs to be eliminated. A Romefeller force drives some Treize Faction soldiers into the Kingdom as an excuse to enter the Kingdom itself and a battle ensues. With a small defense force that Noin had built in secret without Relena's permission, as well as the recovered Wing Gundam, the Sanc Kingdom and Treize Faction fend off Romefeller's attack. Meanwhile, in space, Lt. Trant of the Romefeller Foundation has been playing with Wing Zero a lot and decides he needs some real battle data. To find it, he tracks down Duo Maxwell. However, after his brush with the Zero System, Duo decides Wing Zero is a dangerous machine that's best left alone and takes on Trant with his still incomplete Deathscythe Hell Custom. Zero System kills Trant and Duo returns to his colony. On Earth, Romefeller is poised to take out the Treize Faction HQ in Luxembourg and Hiiro goes to fight with his Wing Gundam. While there, he meets Treize Khushrenada and receives Treize's newest toy, the Gundam Epyon. After wiping out both sides, Hiiro and the Epyon return to the Sanc Kingdom. In outer space, Wu Fei loses his colony to an OZ attack and vows to fight for justice. Zechs Merquise decides to team up with Wu Fei, but Wu Fei sees him as an enemy and fights back. Wu Fei runs off and Zechs returns to Peacemillion, a giant spaceship built by Howard and Professor G, two of the Tallgeese's designers (and Prof. G built Deathscythe).

Definitely a good disc. Operation 7 features the debut of the Gundam Epyon, the destruction of the Tallgeese, the returns of both Duo and Wu Fei, and a nice bloodbath in Luxembourg. With new and better menus to boot, Operation 7 just might have what it takes to edge out Operation 5 as the best Gundam W DVD to date. However, on a disappointing note, the Rhythm Emotion intro does NOT appear on this disc, despite the new menus. Bah.
